QUEENS OF THE OCEAN & EARTH NSW JUNIOR WEB TITLES

by Tru Starling

As most surfers are aware, all events have been put on hold for an extended period of time due to the ever annoying COVID-19. To keep the competitive flames of surfers 18 and under burning, Surfing NSW introduced a first ever ‘Ocean and Earth Junior Web Titles’.

Pretty much any surfer from NSW had to upload the best clip they had of themselves surfing during the competition period of Monday 4th of May to Sunday 10th of May. These videos were then assessed and Surfing NSW crowned the champions of the series across four different age groups.

Winner of the 12 Girls at only 7 years old is Byron Bay’s Leihani Zoric ( @theminishakas ) who is one to watch. Her fearless attack on her waves leaves everyone with their jaw on the ground. This tiny little natural footer’s bubbly attitude and pure talent has everyone speechless.

Shyla Short ( @shylashort ) from Austinmer took out the 14 girls with a one-two combo on her backhand. The baby-blue eyed beauty leaves everyone wide eyed with her finesse and elegant style in and out of the water.

Queen of the 16 girls and Culburra’s sweetheart, Keira Buckpitt ( @keirabuckpitt ) laid down some hammers on her backhand for her entry leaving everyone very impressed. The little powerhouse has a bright future ahead of her.

None other than Lennox Head’s Nyxie Ryan ( @nyxiealiah ) took out the 18 Girls with her aggressive frontside attack and a beautiful green wall ahead of her. Nyxie’s gypsy soul makes everyone adore her and her surfing.

So there it is, the 4 best female surfers in NSW. During this time it can be difficult to find things to keep that competitive spirit alive, so this initiative from Surfing NSW has definitely kept the best junior surfers in NSW hungry for a real event to start.
