SHAVE,WAX OR LASER, WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR YOU?

by Jesse Starling

Ok ladies, this has been one of the most talked about topics for a while now, should we shave, wax or laser?

Now I know some people might find this an uncomfortable topic but itโ€™s one that needs to be spoken about. As surferโ€™s we spend so much time in bikinis down the beach and itโ€™s hard to tell which method is best to use to keep us looking clean and tidy all year round.

For all the girls who havenโ€™t yet hit puberty or are just entering the world and you might have to soon start using one of these methods, let me give you a piece of advice from someone who has been in your position. Body hair is natural so donโ€™t be afraid of it because everyone has it. Whether you get it earlier or later than others doesnโ€™t matter because everyone is different so donโ€™t let anyone tell you otherwise. Never compare yourself to others because you are beautiful just the way you are.

Shave, wax or laser are different ways to remove hair from areas of the body such as your legs, armpits or bikini areas. Each technique has perks of itโ€™s own but I wanted to get in contact with someone to give me the pros and cons of each method to help you choose whether to shave, wax or laser?

So i got in contact with a beautician from Sydney and asked the question that so many girls are too scared to ask, should we shave, wax or laser?

Shaving

Shaving is a hair removal method where you use a razor across the skin to cut the showing hair. When it comes to shaving, this is definitely the easiest and cheapest method of them all. Razors are easy to access, you can generally buy them from the supermarket ranging from $8 to $20 packs. Itโ€™s convenient, fast and painless however, it has the most repercussions out of all the methods. Some repercussions include, ingrown hairs, blunt regrowth of hairs and some people can have reactions with the razor which can infect the pores.

Waxing

Waxing is a hair removal technique that rips the entire hair out of the pore, by using wax and waxing strips. Waxing is definitely a harder technique than shaving however leaves you hairless for longer. Waxing pulls the whole hair shaft out of the follicle meaning it becomes empty, hence why it takes longer for the growth to come back. You can either get a professional to wax your body or kits can be bought at the supermarket and you can do it yourself. However, as surfers we are constantly in the sun and can easily get sunburnt. Waxing and sunburn are not the best of friends, so it will be worth not getting waxed if you are sunburnt as this irritates the skin.

Laser

Laser the most recent form of hair removal to evolve. Rather than waxing or shaving, laser removal is a longer process that aims to reduce the amount of hair that grows on the certain part of the body being lasered. This means you can have fast and reliable laser hair reduction and can throw out those pesky razors. The laser damages the follicle underneath meaning that the hair shaft is forced to fall out, leaving the skin silky smooth. This form of hair removal treatment is the longest process in regards to regrowth which means we get to stay baby smooth for longer.

(Be sure you consult with a professional before proceeding with laser hair removal treatment)

Ultimately all these techniques are great in their own unique way. In my personal opinion I like waxing, I find that it is a happy medium between all the different ways you can remove body hair. It truly depends on the person what method they decide to use but I hope this gives you a little insight into whether you want to shave, wax or laser.
