CAITLIN SIMMERS WINS BIG AT THE US OPEN.

by Tru Starling

As the first challenger series event came to a close early this morning we saw unexpected names make it all the way through to the pointy end of the draw with some familiar faces giving it a redhot crack.

All of the heats had some really exciting moments with our Aussie girls unfortunately getting knocked out early in the draw leaving Dimity Stoyle, Macy Callaghan and Philippa Anderson being the last aussies left fighting in the event.

The semifinals were exciting to watch with almost everyone probably having their money on Coco Ho and Courtney Conologue making it through to the final. However the young guns of Gabriela Bryan and Caitlin Simmers looked untouchable as their confidence grew.

The final was an exciting heat and the young American surfer Caitlin Simmons took home the trophy as well as 10,000 points and secured herself at the top end of the Leaderboard in 2nd place just behind runner up Gabriela Bryan who sits in first place as we move on through to the next challenger series event in Portugal.

The 15-year-old took out the event whilst eliminating veterans almost twice her age and her humble nature after the win left everyone amazed at the teenager’s calm nature and maturity.

We are keeping a close eye on this one, we think you should too…

More to come at the end of the next event and with the new rules for point allocation for the challenger series it’s still anyone’s game. Stay tuned.
