ALL HAIL CARISSA. A FINALS DAY RECAP OF THE RIP CURL NEWCASTLE CUP

by Tru Starling

After four days of solid competitive surfing and Newcastle delivering the goods for waves we thought we would give you a post event wrap of the final day.

Now we want to be completely honest with you here…..

We missed the day 3 recap due to some absolutely amazing waves at our local North Narrabeen (also the next stop on the CT).

The final day was amazing to watch with some big scores being dropped and some big upsets along the way.

Not only did we see the Queen of Surfing, Steph Gilmore, get knocked out by the lethal Rookie on Tour, Isabella Nichols in the quarter finals, we also saw the Hawaiian powerhouse, Carissa Moore, take down American goofyfooter, Caroline Marks to get through to the final.ย

After an exciting run waves, it was Carissa Moore who got the jump on Isabella Nichols in the final with a bit more CT experience under her belt as well as being (we think) the inform surfer all event and took the crown for stop #2 of the CT league.ย

As a little side note, we thought the gap between men and womenโ€™s competitive surfing was seriously squashed through the whole event and Carissaโ€™s air was the best single womenโ€™s turn we have ever seen in competition. Carissa has sent a really strong message to the whole womenโ€™s CT with her surfing in Newcastle, now weโ€™re really excited to see how the top 16 answer back!

Next stop, Our home the infamous North Narrabeen and with some great banks at the moment, we have high hopes that we will see some more world class surfing!ย
