WE RECAP DAY 2 OF THE RIP CURL NARRABEEN CLASSIC
Day 2 of the Rip Curl North Narrabeen Classic delivered an interesting 2 heats for the women.
The judges had made their intentions clear on day 1 that the scoring would be capped based on the conditions and on day 2 they stuck to their guns.
With the first round 2 elimination heat of the day Local wildcard Laura Enever took on Tyler Wright and Tatiana Weston-Webb.
Laura used her local knowledge and positioned herself to the correct spot to take advantage of the traditional North Narrabeen left. And Laura showed her intentions early in the heat that she was back to ruffle the feathers of the CT elite.
Tyler took the lead around half way through the heat, leaving Tatiana and Laura to fight it out for second place.
Tatiana consolidated the heat with a very controversial score leaving Laura in 3rd place for the heat and eliminated from the event. From our point of view(and a-lot of the crowds), Laura should have made that heat.
Heat 2 saw the Newcastle runner-up Isabella Nichols, Costa Rican Brissa Hennessy and French powerhouse Johanne Defay.
Isabella seemed focused on the Alley right handers and the judges didnโt seem to connect with her surfing there. Brissa made some smart decisions and managed to consolidate second place but no-body could stop the amazing backhand surfing of Johanne Defay.
For us, Johanne showed us the best surfing of the whole event so far and definitely put her fellow competitors on notice that she is here to win.
And for us, if she can beat Tyler in round 3, we think she will win!
Stay tuned for more soon…
