THE NEW FCS WAX AND HOW IT STACKS UP

Firstly we would like to state we have no sponsorships or allegiance to any wax company (and we’re not looking one). We have tried most waxes ranging from Mrs Palmers and Fu Wax all the way through to surf-organic and ocean and earth wax.

We generally use Sex-Wax As our daily driver wax most of the time though.

So when FCS released a new wax range and a few people we know spoke really highly of it we thought we would give it a go. And we have to say that the product is good, really good! We also want to add we paid for the wax, this isn’t a “pay for a plug” style of review.

So we thought “let’s break it down into a few categories to see how it stacks up”, that way we may help you next time your buying wax.

We have developed a 5 star rating system to help make sense.

CATEGORY 1: RANGE OF WAX FOR WATER TYPES.

STAR RATING: 5 out of 5

FCS has a solid range of wax to suit the water where you surf.

XHARD (BASE) – All water types, works as a base coat

HARD (TROPICAL) – + 22°C / 72F

FIRM (WARM) – 18-22°C / 64-72F

SOFT (COOL) – 13-19°C / 56-66F

XSOFT (COLD) – -14 C / 58 F

We used the Firm (Warm) wax.

CATEGORY2: EASE OF APPLICATION

STAR RATING: 5 out of 5

The FCS wax went on really easily and felt like a mixture of FU-Wax and Sex-Wax which to us have been the best 2 wax brands we have used.

In some cases we waxed over existing Sex-Wax on a board and it was more than fine to do.

CATEGORY3: HOW DOES IT WORK

As stated above, the wax had really great traction under the feet (only our front foot as we use grip) and our front foot felt really fixed to the board, their wasn’t a lot of wax left on our wetsuits (which can happen with Fu-Wax) and the grip lasted all surf.

So there you have it, our first wax review and it came out on top! The FCS wax will be a part of our wax recipe from now on, so if you’re looking at trying something new or your local surf shop has run out of your favourite wax we recommend trying the FCS range, who knows it may become your new favourite wax too!
