DAY 3 RECAP OF THE BOOST MARGARET RIVER PRO

by Tru Starling

With the surf having dropped off from the day before – thank goodness – the ladies put on a great show for all of the surfing fans with some solid scores and heat totals being thrown down in the west.

So let’s take a look at who made it through to the quarter finals shall we?

A TEXTBOOK BOTTOM TURN BY BRONTE MACAULAY. Pic @wsl

Local knowledge was the advantage in this one with Bronte Macaulay taking out the first heat of the round of 16 against fellow goofy footer Caroline Marks Bronte just looked more committed in the pocket which got her the nod with the judges. Johanne Defay was just that little bit more in rhythm compared to Amuro Tsuzuki, with the Frenchwoman securing herself a spot in the quarter finals.

Brazilian surfer Tatiana Weston-Webb didn’t miss a beat in her heat against Sage Erickson, securing herself a spot in the quarters and Tyler Wright was behind for most of the heat against Costa Rican powerhouse Brisa Hennessy, however with her CT experience Tyler was able to come out on top with a nail biting finish after blowing her priority twice.

This next heat was a heat to watch… Carissa Moore and Macy Callaghan left everyone’s jaws on the ground with both women being able to win every single other heat with their score line. Macy locked in an 8.67 and a 7.5 however, Carissa Moore was just that little bit ahead of her with an 8.00 and an 8.93. It’s worth adding Macy surfed the best Margaret River left we have seen in a while.

AS ALWAYS, EYES ON THE PRIZE FOR ISABELLA. Pic @wsl

Rookie on Tour Isabella Nichols took out her heat ahead of fellow Sunshine Coast surfer Keely Andrew, so we will see Bella in the quarter finals as well! The style master Stephanie Gilmore found her feet getting the jump over Nikki Van Dijk however Steph does look like she has a lot more to give at Main-break. And the last heat of the day was definitely a good one, Sally Fitzgibbons scrapped through her heat against one of Murmur-Mags favourites Malia Manuel who put up a great fight for the 40 minute heat.

So, here is how the Quarter Finals are looking:

Quarter Final 1: Bronte Macaulay vs Johanne Defay

Quarter Final 2: Tatiana Weston-Webb vs Tyler Wright

Quarter Final 3: Carissa Moore vs Isabella Nichols

Quarter Final 4: Stephanie Gilmore vs Sally Fitzgibbons

Let’s hope you all still have a decent looking fantasy team because we reckon this line up of surfers is going to be one to watch… Stay tuned for more after day 4!
