DAY 1 RECAP OF THE BOOST MARGARET RIVER PRO

by Tru Starling

The third stop of the WSL CT league kicked off in Western Australia yesterday and we saw some huge waves for both the men and the women in the line-up with the afternoon having some real nail biter moments for the men out at the Margaret River main break

The women put on a great show in the morning with the in-form Carissa Moore absolutely lighting it up in her 1st round heat against Nikki Van Dijk who came in second and the local trials winner and absolute ripper Willow Hardy coming in a close third.ย

Tatiana Weston-Webb opened up with a great start after her second place at the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic, taking a win over Macy Callaghan coming in second and Keely Andrew in third.

Japanese powerhouse Amuro Tsuzuki locked in a good number in her heat against Caroline Marks and Malia Manuel taking the win over the two and getting herself a spot in the round of 16 and also once again showing her credentials for why she belongs on tour.ย

One of our favourite Costa Ricans, Brisa Hennessy had a great start to the event taking the win in her first heat ahead of the rookie on tour Isabella Nichols and leaving the style master Stephanie Gilmore to battle her way through the elimination round.ย

Sally Fitzgibbons was looking very comfortable out in big main break taking a win in the all natural footer heat with Tyler Wright coming in second and Sage Erickson coming in third.ย

And to finish of the first round of the ladies, Frenchwoman Johanne Defay – who we think put on an absolute show at the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic – had another great heat taking the win ahead of local charger Bronte Macaulay and Courtney Conologue who came in third.

Also, side note… Did anyone see John Johnโ€™s 10?! That was freakish!!!

Looks like we will be seeing another great day of action soon, we cannot wait to see the women light it up throughout the rest of the event! Stay tuned for another update soonโ€ฆ
