CAROLINE IS THE QUEEN OF THE RIP CURL NARRABEEN CLASSIC

With the second event of the WSL 2021 season, the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic having come to a close, let’s take a look back at the event and how it played out. 

As we set the scene for Finals Day at the prestigious North Narrabeen beach, everyone expected the swell to be predominantly coming from the south and a potential lay-day was called the day before. 

However, as the sun came up and it seemed everyone was getting ready as if it was on in the car park, we were all surprised to be greeted with a bit more of east in the swell and some super fun lefts coming through. So the call came quick, IT IS ON!

As the day progressed and marched closer to the semi finals, everyone had their bets on Carissa Moore going 2 for 2 for the second event of the Aus League but a shock elimination by dark horse Tatiana Weston-Webb saw Carissa Moore out of the contest and Tati through to the finals. Carissa seemed to focus her attention a little more to the right hander and Tati took full advantage of the steep running lefts.

The second semi final between the two American’s Caroline Marks and Courtney Conologue was an exciting one to watch as both of the ladies kept getting better and better throughout the semi-final heat however it was Caroline who was looking in form with her aggressive surfing and laser sharp focus. 

As it pushed into finals time, Narrabeen held up some fun left handers and both Caroline and Tati opened up with some great scores to kick the final off and that lead for a super exciting final between the two women who put both on a great show, but once again, Caroline’s back-footed surfing and excellent timing saw her rise on top of Tatiana and take out the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic for 2021. 

As we mentioned throughout the event, watching a consistent left hand beach break as a CT event was really exciting and the WSL taking a chance on Narrabeen offered the surf-fans a point of view for the CT girls surfing, we can’t remember when the last time their was a all goofy footer final in the Women’s division??? 

The local board riders were so excited to have the event at North Narrabeen and would definitely welcome it back next year if it was offered. And from us, well, what an exciting few days it was and we cannot wait to see what the next stop of the event – Margaret River – has in store for us.
