BACK TO SURFING AT THE VOLKSWAGEN AUS OPEN CRONULLA
As the first few events in Australia get under way, the ladies of the NSW Coast put on an impressive show at the first stop in Cronulla. With fun 2-3 foot conditions, Cronulla provided some contestable waves for the ladies to perform and they did just that.
At first glance, the line up of the women’s side of the draw consisted of Philipa Anderson, Freya Prumm, Sarah Baum, Cedar Leigh-Jones who are all placed in the top 6 in the Australasian ranks on the WQS and some other big name surfers.
The first and second day of the event saw some major upsets with experienced competitors being taken out by some up and coming young talent. With the likes of April Davey and Gabi Spake putting on a great show.
Coming into the Finals for the women, the four ladies put on a show for all the spectators with Cedar Leigh-Jones taking it out with an incredible 14.33 total followed by Sarah Baum taking the runner up spot with a respectable 12.00 total and Philip Anderson and Tru Starling coming in third and fourth.
With events coming up back to back over the next few weeks, the next competition in Port Macquarie is featuring another impressive line up with a good looking swell forecast. We can’t wait to watch the ladies shine again.
As for the men, they too kept us entertained with Kalani Ball taking it out with an impressive 18.04 total followed by Dylan Moffat in second with a 16.00 total and Aidan Lewan-Parsons and Joel Vaughan taking out third and fourth. It’s safe to say that the men put on a clinic throughout the event and we are looking forward to some more show-stopping performances in the upcoming events.
