AUSTRALIAN OPEN OF SURFING EVENTS

by Tru Starling

Well… The WSL finally released a call on the rest of the year and we don’t think that anyone was surprised about the decision. So, no events for the rest of 2020, although there is a possibility for the 2021 season to kick off in December 2020. However, considering the world is still in the middle of a pandemic, the odds of that happening could be pretty slim, don’t you think?

Competitive surfers from all around the globe expected this decision but we dare say it disappointed a fair few. A week or so after the call was made by the WSL, Surfing NSW uploaded a mysterious post about “big news coming”. Which, I’m sure would have left all their followers wondering what this news was. Two days later, they released a full roster of events throughout Australia for the Australian QS surfers.

With events going throughout the whole of the east coast of Australia, the events will kick off in September and to say we are excited is an understatement! As competitive surfers, not being able to compete for the last 4 months has probably been one of the most challenging things that we have had to endure.

With no clear timeline of when events will start up, sometimes you can lose your drive or sense of purpose. Which is okay, what’s a fashion designer without any material or an IT guy without any computers to fix? Sooooo, with this new circuit starting up in about 6 weeks, the time to knuckle down is now.

The best part about this new circuit is that Surfing Australia is calling it the Australian Open of Surfing. Clever right? If you want a cheeky look at these events here they are:
