Today’s article is one of our personal favourites as these five old school remedies for the modern day surfer are hacks that we live by. Each remedy we absolutely love, so let’s get into it.
Remedy 1: Apple cider vinegar for immunity
Apple cider vinegar is one of the most amazing and healthiest ways to boost your immune system quickly. Yes it smells and definitely does no taste the best but it has the most amazing long term benefits. We have about 10-15 millilitres each day. It is mostly beneficial for heart health and blood pressure. It’s a quick and easy remedy that you could add to your morning routine to have many benefits.
Remedy 2: Aloe vera for burns
We have been using aloe vera for as long as we can remember for all our burns. We have been lucky enough to have a fabulous old Aunty who grew loads of aloe vera so now we have a lot of it around our house. Which luckily means for us in summer when the surf is too good to think to go in the reapply sunscreen we can easily just walk over to one of our aloe vera plants, cut it open and put it on our sunburn to help sooth and help heal.
Remedy 3: Coconut oil hair mask
This one is one of the quickest and easiest ways to give your hair a real hydration boost and help heal a dry or sore scalp. Most pantry’s have a jar of coconut oil in them these days. So its just a matter of massaging the coconut oil through your hair whilst it is dry, leave it to sit for a few hours, wash it out (and give it a really good shampoo and condition). Your hair should be looking and feeling a lot more rejuvenated.
Remedy 4: Coffee / coconut scrub hydrate the skin
This remedy is amazing for both exfoliating and hydrating the skin. The coffee in the scrub has been proven to improve blood flow, reducing stretch marks and cellulite which give the skins complexion a radiant glow. Whilst the coffee does its thing the coconut oil helps to sooth and hydrate the skin, leaving you feel fresh and rejuvenated. There are many different recipes when it comes to this but we choose to do equal parts of ground coffee to coconut oil to make our perfect consistency. If you can’t access ground coffee there are some awesome brands such as frank body which have amazing and cheap coffee scrubs that will do the trick.
Remedy 5: Lemon honey throat gargle
Lemon honey throat gargle isn’t just good for sore throats but is another awesome immune booster. This one definitely tastes and smells way better than the apple cider vinegar. All you have to do is squeeze the juice of half or one whole lemon depending on how strong you want the tea, add a teaspoon of honey and then boiling hot water. Sip on this awesome natural soother and enjoy whilst the lemon detoxifies the honey smooths, creating the perfect combination for a better immune system.
